Default Rear Hatch problem

Okay, I am still new here so I can not post in the DIY section. I did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for.
Here is the problem, I went to replace the rear lift gate shocks on my 1997 blazer today and noticed that on the hatch where the shock should mount the little ball that the shock mounts to is gone. It looks like it might have had some rust and broken off, I didn't notice it until today because the guy I bought the blazer from said he had taken the shock off to buy a replacement and never did so I never checked to make sure there was no damage. I have only own it for about 2 weeks, is there a way to replace that ball? I don't know if it just screwed in or it if was welded, I don't have a second pair of hands to hold it up while I look at it. If anyone can tell me first how I can fix it and second where I can find the replacement ball that would be great. I am pissed that I didn't check this before I bought it and would like to fix it ASAP.

Do you have the one piece rear hatch. like the whole thing lifts up?
Or the two piece, like the glass lifts up and the tailgate drops down?

on the driver side of the lift gate the ball is missing that the shock goes onto, when I looked a little closer I noticed that the mount was broken where the ball would screw into. I have searched all over the net and can not seem to find that mount so I can replace the whole thing. Any help would be great.

Default Same problem

My 99 has the same issue. I'm planning on going out to a salvage yard and cutting one off. I'm sure it can be welded back on. The previous owner of my 95 Jimmy kept slamming the drivers door with the lock engaged until he broke the body where the door latch catches. I'm planning on welding that back too.

I was thinking a junk yard as well, I think all I would have to do is drill out the two welds that hold it on and then give it a few hits with a hammer and chisel and it should come right off

Default Sounds like a winner

If you want a clean finish. I'm sure you can find a really good body shop that has a spot welder. Mig should do ya just fine.

I am my won body shop, when it comes to welding anyways, then throw on a few coats of primer and paint and you will never be able to tell.
