Default Tire mount on rig

Has anyone taken a rig that didn't have a tire mount on the tailgate area and put one on?

I'm wanting to put one on my rig, and it never came with one. I've been looking at the area, and it seems like it would need re-enforcement to handle it. Am I correct?

Do a forum search, multiple people here have done it.
I believe most folks have used some sort of plate on the inside, but again, try searching and there's probably several step by steps for ya.

Ideally, one would add reinforcement but (on the 2nd gens at least) there's not much that you can add other than a bar going from the top front bolt to the bottom front bolt. I bolted mine on to the outer body panel with several 2" and 3" washers on the inside. Had it on for about 3 weeks now and everything seems good still. There are a few guys who've had it on for a year or more and none have reported any long term sagging/damage to the rear quarter panel.

I've never seen the inside panels of a first gen though so I'm not sure if its as easy as a second gen.
