I bought my 2 door Blazer Last Week, so I wanna clean some things up a bit. It's got Sundamage on the black plastic trimming around the rear window. Is there anyway of cleaning that up or painting them? I know I can just replace them, but I would like to avoid that. When I get out of work I will post some pics.

 

very common problem, cant help it... gotta just change it. you cant buff that out.

 

You can however, sand, prime, and paint it. The newer plastic specific paints work great! You just have to take your time.

 

mine are dry rotted pretty much through so i have to change them out no matter how you look at it. so i guess it depends just how bad the damage is.

Sand, primer, and paint sounds pretty cool. White would prob look pretty nice. I wouldn't dare to do something like that myself tho.(I only know how to turn wrenches and bust up my knuckles) How much do you guys think I can expect to pay for something like that?

 

Actually... Since that is all plastic, get some masking tape, tape off the roof and the window, and cover everything else within 3 feet with newspaper. Sand down the plastic with 600 grit paper, then 1000 grit until smooth. You'll want to keep turning the 1000 grit paper as it will tend to load up if you keep pressure on one area too long and that will cause deeper scratches that will in-turn need to be removed. After that, clean with some wax/grease remover, then again with thinner and a lint free rag. Then get one (or 2) of the new rattle cans of plastic specific paint. I think that it's Rust-o-Leum that sells their Fusion line of paints specifically for plastic. I'd do it in gloss black again since it is easy and you don't have to worry about matching anything. That should hold up quite well and look good so long as you take your time. Painting isn't about laying down thick layers. It is about laying down thin, even layers and lots of them. The trick is to keep the wet paint clean and free of dirt and/or bugs.

 

Ok well mine is sun dried all the way through i can feal it dried up on th other side. Am i just SOL here?
