Well I finally got myself a can of Vht yesturday. So i decided to tint the tails. They came out all ugly looking but i realized i still have to clear coat them. They are back on the truck for now so I can drive seeing its the only car I have. I'll get pictures soon.

One of my friends did this to his blazer and had to get new tail lights because he got pulled over for them like 3 times in one day. Your probably going to have the same thing happen since you live in Chicago. Just a heads up.

I've had mine done for almost 6 months now. Never had an issue with the cops.
I also didn't clearcoat mine. I really liked the flat look of them in the beginning, but as they weather and wear they're starting to look like crap. As soon as the weather permits I'm going to throw a coat of clear on them.

Debating on whether to do that as well or just fork out $50 and buy smoked taillights...

Spend the $10 (or however much it costs) on a can of VHT and do it yourself. The end result is way better then spending all that money on new tails. The best part about VHT is you can pick your shade. You can do 1 coat for a light tint, or do a few and have them pretty dark.

The cops here in Streator are real D-Bags about small stuff like that and window tint, so that could just be why my friend got pulled over for it so much.

Yeah it really depends on where you are. I've heard both sides before. The cops around here could really care less about that stuff from what I can tell.

I know I've said it alot before... but I did have a friend who got rear-ended, and had tinted tails, and the guy pleaded that he couldn't see his taillights because of the tinting and he got off... just something to marinade on.

I did this before, too. They looked real nice when I first did it. I didn't clear mine so the tint started fading, and they aren't as dark as before, and they have a shiny spot from the heat off the bulbs. I think I'm probably going to buy another set of stock tail lights, and either vinyl tint them, or have a shop do them.

I did mine about six months ago with about 3 coats of vht and 4-5 very light coats of clear. Not too glossy, but it looks like it could have come factory
