yeah, exact same as mine. I thought it was the heatsheild on my cat itself, but when i lifted it up turned out to be inside of it.

98 is earliest year i do believe

i hollowed out my cat cause the insides were broke loose and rattled. I ran it without shutting off the code for a few thousand miles and never got a SES light. I then later on just shut code off and have no issues with passing emissions

my cat rattled to, i got a friend who took mine out and put a piece of pipe in there cause it was all i could afford at the time thats been 14,000 miles ago and 1 year and never got an ses light. It is loud as hell tho so i'm probably gonna put a cat back in soon, we dont have emissions to worry about here so i dont have to just would like it not so loud.

I don't want to "gain" anything, i just dont want the damn rattle and replacing it with a tube is a cure for that. I'll look into an 02 sensor simulator... my buddy has one on his LS1 3rd gen, i'm sure he'll know a thing or two. Completely gapped my brain.
just out of curosity, how much does this sensor spacer extender cost? and what are those 3 bushings picture in the bottom used for?
