So I didn't finish tonight because it got dark and cold. I got the wiring unwrapped, there was a massive amount of electrical tape on there.


Anyone notice anything wrong with the next 2 pictures?

In case nobody caught it, pin A (Park/Neutral Signal) is not connected on the old or new connector. It was just taped up in the harness. I never had an issue with it. I did see on some sights that it isn't used on all vehicles.

That is as far as I got today. I had a really hard time getting the butt connectors to stay on the wires from the vehicle because some of them are so thin, I wasted quite a few. I still need to wrap up the wires, connect the shift linkage and reconnect the front drive shaft. I did hook the wires to the Neutral safety switch to test it, it shows that it is in neutral, but won't start. I'll try again once it is all done. Also, The back up lights are still on....

An option could be soldering and a shrink hose. But it's a lot of work.

 

If these don't hold up that is the way I will go, but I really don't want to lay upside down under the car holding a soldering iron.

 

Yeah - and definitively a job to be done in nice weather and possibly on a lift or at least stands which make enough room

 

So I made a good bit of progress tonight, but didn't quite finish. However, I got to the point to where I can test it. The parking selector from what I can tell is dead on, even though the backup lights are still on the fritz.

The cap wasn't lining up, when I tried to fix it the cap fell off and needle bearings went all over the place. Thank god for magnets. I'll finish this up tomorrow.

 

Been there - done that.

What a PITA when the caps fall off. I have wasted 1 hour in the garage picking up the needles. Then removed the other side cap to count the needles. Luckily I have found all the needles.

Looks like I am out of luck, there is still one needle that I am missing, I looked all over the area that the fell and it is nowhere to be found. I even used a big magnet to find it.

 

Ah man, thats rough. Been there before ...ended up having to replace it over one needle. I saved the old u joint in my toolbox though in case I ever need to salvage a needle from it lol

 

I got a moog u joint from advance for $19 after tax. I just put the end caps on it since I couldn't get the shaft all the way off or i would have replaced the entire U joint. I did keep the old ends.
