Picked up a new set of tail light and just wondering if anyone has an idea how to wire the led rings up. They have separate power wires for each ring. Was thinking just wire them to the parking lights.
Guy bought them for his 05 blazer but sold it 2 years ago so got them for $60 they are brand new still
I could see them being useful for either running lights or brake/turn signal lights.
They would look really neat as the only running lights in the assembly (that would require actually cutting the leads on the factory tail light bulb sockets and running them to the 12v+ for the LED's, and just tapping in to ground to complete the circuit).
On the other hand, they would give off more lighting for the brake/turn signals if they were tapped into that circuit to come on with the original bulbs.
Guess it's really just up to you and your personal preference. I myself would lean towards using them as running lights
A side effect and possibly a benefit to disabling the incandescent bulb as a running light, you don't have to worry about it melting the aftermarket housing. I see so many aftermarket taillights melt right above the bulb, because the bulb sits so close to plastic inside. Look at just how small that red lens is inside the light and the small amount of space around it. The heat from the bulb has nowhere to go and it ends up boiling the plastic lens.
This is of coarse not an issue if you install LED bulbs in place of the original glass incandescent bulbs...
When I bought my aftermarket lights years back, I didn't even install them until I got LED bulbs to put in them, so I could prevent that from ever happening. They've never had glass incandescent bulbs in them and they still look brand new to this day.
I went a little overboard with my LED install though lol. I retrofitted Osram Joule LED modules into them. I want to replace them with lights that are blacked out inside like you'rs are, I just haven't gotten around to it yet... These chrome ones fit the look when I had some chrome 16" Firebird wheels on the Blazer at the time, but now I've got black wheels, black brush guard, etc, and the chrome sort of sticks out...
I had an issue with it yesterday I had to fix before the lights. I went and rotated my tires and discovered my front diff was locked turned out the cable was a little sticky and didn’t disengage not sure how long it was like that but an easy fix. Maybe I’ll get some gas mileage back
