"wirring" sound when driving

hi everyone. i'm new to having a 4X4, so i actually do not know much about 4 wheel drive stuff. anyway, i have a 2004 blazer 4X4, and all of a sudden today i noticed it makes a quiet "wirring" sound when i start going around 40/50 MPH. it is not loud, but i noticed the sound goes with the movement of the truck, and the sound kinda slows down as i slow down.
it is coming from the passenger side, but i cannot tell if it is from the front, or back. i changed all of the brakes a few months ago, and it does not need tires yet. it drives fine. i just happened to notice the noise today. i did not try in 4HI, but when i hear the noise so far, i have been driving it in 2HI.

Im currently having this same problem. I think its the actuator and or vacum lines. I think it maybe the hub locking when its not supposed to but im not to sure.

i wonder if there is a way to check to see if that is the problem. i can't think of any way to check that. i was also thinking maybe it is a bad wheel bearing

well i climbed under my truck and had some one move it forward a little bit and watched the front shaft to the wheels to see if it was moving. Mine was turning slowly and im pretty sure its not supposed to move at all if your in 2hi. so i think the hub is locked which is why the shaft is turning. Can someone back me up on this or have any other ideas?

What 4wd setup do you have? NV233 which is a 3-button switch? Or NV236 which is a 4-button switch with auto4wd feature?
With the NV233, the front shaft should not turn, but may just from parasitic drag in the front diff. You should be able to turn it by hand though when in 2HI. With the NV236, the clutch pack will always turn the front drive shaft, even in 2HI, but it is only because of the clutch preload. It can be stopped, but do not try it with your hands.

Ihave the 3 button switch (NV233).I didn't try turning the shaft by hand but it was turning, but it didn't quite look like it was turning at the same rate as the tire. Now i'm starting to think that it has to do with the actuator and cable that pulls the shaft in to the t-case. Seems like it's trying to engage when its not supposed to. Maybe the cable getting binded up in something, or the actuator acting up.
Does this sound like it could be my problem? Is there a way to diagonse (test)if this is the problem?
Sorry for kind of thread jacking but i think we have the same problem Helter80. Also Helter is yours a 4dr or a 2dr if its a 2 dr is it a ZR2? Just wondering because mine is a ZR2 and ive found a few posts with this similar problem over on ZR2usa.com

mine is a 2dr and it is not a ZR2, its just a regular 2dr blazer 4x4. i've been talking to more people and they seem to think its probably either the wheel bearing, or CV joint

Try to turn the front shaft with the truck off and listen for noises from the front diff.
If the front axle were still engaged, the front shaft would be spinning at the same rate as the rear shaft.
If the front axle were still engaged, the front shaft would be spinning at the same rate as the rear shaft.
