Default RE: "wirring" sound when driving

Im not having any problems with it right now. Ive only had the problem happen twice now within the last 2 weeks i'd say, when it starts i stop and play with putting it in 4wd and back to 2wd and usually i can get it to stop. Do the front hubs actually lock? what locks them? is it a vacum line that does it? This is my second 4wd vehicle but my last one had manual locking hubs.

From what I understand the front shafts to my wheels should always spin (trying to figure out how the whole 4x4 engages). When i hit the 4hi button it pulls a cable that slides a sleeve from my shaft connected to the wheel over to another shaft that goes into the front diff. i've gotten all this info from http://www.zr2usa.com/mboard/index.p...=7213&st=0

I was kind of thinking the same thing about the bearing and the cv joints but since it only happens sometimes for me at least, it doesn't make me think thats the problem. I thought about changing the entire hub assembly bearing and all, parts like 100 bucks from autozone.
