My dad has gone through 15 bearings in the last 5 years. Both the passenger and drivers side seem to alternate. We put alot of miles on it but we don't take it off roads much. It is a 2000 2dr 4x4 blazer. Automatic. Is it common for bearings to go out on these later models or are we looking at a bigger ishue. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

 

what brand bearings are you using? cheap bearings don't last, and what torque are you using on the nut?

 

I'm assuming your talking about wheel bearings correct? What brand are you using and what mods have been done? 15 seems really high!!

 

225 to 235 on tire size. That's the only mod so to speak. And g first I had the cheaper bearings but I switched to NSK.

At first I was going to Les Schwab and those idiots were using an impact wrench but I took it to a 76 station and they use a hand torque. Which helped but the last one they changed was about 6 months ago and it is already going out. The things are supposed to last 60k miles. And Im having a hard time making it last 10k

My dad rather. I myself have an 89 so I don't have this problem.

 

get yourself a torque wrench and check the torque right now wheel in the air

Has the axle nut ever been replaced ? maybe it isn't locking / holding

I put a set of SKF in my brother inlaws Blazer and they didn't last that long either IMO

 

what was the part number for the bearing? I can't seem to find any reference as to which nsk bearing fits blazers.

 

axle nut could be worn out also, replacement nuts are fairly cheep

 

whats the alignment like ?

 

alignment is great now. we have it done whenever it needs it. and i was wrong it wasn't NSK it was SKF. it dawned on me after i read rexazz2 comment.

 

as for what part number ill hafta be awnist i do not know. axle nut has not bin replaced but it seems to lock fine. that's a good point thow. that had not acerd to me.
