Default 1998 Blazer 4WD grinding noise

I just recently purchased a 1998 Blazer 4WD. I was told that there was nothing wrong with it, but I've recently found out is not the case. However, it did not make this sound when I bought it.

Anyways, now when I drive it makes a grinding noise coming from the front end starting when I get to about 20 mph. It goes away when making a left turn. It does not go away when braking.

I checked the brakes and everything appears to be ok and nothing is rubbing. I also checked the front wheel for play up and down to see if the bearing were ok. It seems to be ok. I noticed that the sway bar pin on the driver's side is not mounted and will need to be replaced, I can't imagine that to cause a grinding sound while driving. Other than that everything appears to be ok.

Thanks guys! I am having a serious case of buyer's remorse. If I can get this fixed it would mean the world to me!

I had the same problem you are writing about on my '97 Blazer......checked the front...nothing wrong....it was the left rear bearing what i felt in the front and the floor! So check your back wheels for the grinding sound is my advice....

greets from holland

I'm sure you aren't too worried about this anymore as you posted this two years ago but I had the same problem, if you put it in 4wd Ănd it stops the problem is a vaccuum activated switch on the transfer case, its trying to go into 4wd when you are in 2hi you can either buy a new piece or pull the vacuum line. It's on top of the motor, near the firewall on the drivers side
