1999 jimmy rear diff problem
Hey, im new to the whole world of rear wheel drive vehicles, and am having a problem with the rear differential on my jimmy. it's a 4x4 if that matters. But I had to replace the rear differential cover gasket and when I got everything all together, I went to take the plug out, and the previous owner stripped the plug so that you cant get a ratchetextention in there good enough to break the seal on the plug.
But right above that is a rubber line that goes from the differential to the frame rail on the passenger side, can I just use that to fill the rear diff up with fluid so that i dont have to screw around with the plug?

RE: 1999 jimmy rear diff problem
You could attempt to fill it through the vent line, however I'm betting it'll take a VERY long time if you can even get the diff oil to flow into the line. You will not have any venting of the air displaced by the oil.
I would try to see if you can get the possibly apply torque to a rachet while someone hits the rachet with a small hammer to shock the plug.

RE: 1999 jimmy rear diff problem
i know this is an old thread but this is how i got mine out and i need to give credit to my dad, i had the same problem, butif you have the tools, you could use an impact gun and a hard bar, get the gun in and use the bar to apply pressure and slowly try to ease it out,
