2000 blazer, limited slip differential
Hi, i have a 2000 chevy blazer that the rear differential whines. I got a replacement and when i took cover off to change gear oil i noticed that it was a limited slip. The one in the blazer now is not, if i put the limited slip in, does the front differential have to be a limited slip also?

ok, so the new one you got has the G80 in it, did you get the entire rear axle? If so just make sure that the gears match with your front end, so if your new rear end is 3.73's make sure you front end is as well. Lockers wont make a difference if you only have it at one end but gears will, they need to match front and rear.

GU6, without the G80, is an open 3.42:1 The G80 option is limited slip and most likely 3.73:1
The G80 was also available with 3.42:1 (I have one). Are you sure the new one is 3.73:1? It's usually stamped on the forward side of one of the axle tubes, probably need a wire brush to find it... and read it

When you go to the boneyard, look on the RPO code sticker for GU6 and G80. The GU6 is the ratio you need, and there's ton of them out there, should be easy to find one. The GU6 without the G80 option will get better fuel mileage, but with the G80, you'll get better traction.
