Default 2wd steering box in a Bravada

I am having slop in my steering wheel and decided to go to a local pick a part. I found a 2 wheel drive s-10 pu 1999 model. I pulled the steering gear to use in my 1998 Bravada. The s-10 gearbox looks identical to the Bravadas. I decided to search and found differing opinions as to wether or not i can use it. I haven't installed it yet and wondered if anyone has done this. Thanks in advance. This is my first post btw.

Welcome to the forum!

2WD & 4WD gear boxes have different part numbers for a reason. It will probably fit, but just because it fits, doesn't mean it will work properly. It could be that the lateral movement of the center link is different for 2WD and 4WD. Or it might have different splines on the sector shaft, or the ratio might be different, or "D", all of the above.

It'll work. Generally the difference is in the gear ratios within the box. ZQ8 steering boxes have a much quicker ratio than others. People have put ZQ8 boxes into non-ZQ8 trucks and 4x4's without issue.

Thanks for the reply. I have a new pitman arm that for 4wd. I'm going to try it. I will let you know how it works out.
