4.10 vs 4.56 33"+ tires 4dr 4wd Auto-Trans
I have been doing alot of research on gearing and have decided on 4.10 or 4.56, now I am trying to make the final decision.
My truck has 3.42 from factory, my ford 8.8 rearend that im rebuilding for her has a 3.55 open. I am installing 33" tires.
and she is getting a 6" superlift so she will never see smaller then 33" tires.
anyone who has an auto trans and has regeared can you chime in about power, actual rpms and what not.
I have read the charts and done the math but there is alot of room for error it would seem.
I am leaning towards the 4.56s based on stuff ive read around from people but everytime i say 4.56 and s10 in the same sentance youd think i kicked someones dog.
chime in. Thanks for the input. and yes i will have pics in a bit to prove the 8.8 rear, hehe

4.10 for 33's. When I was running my 33's with my 4.56, it was 2300rpm at 60mph, and dropped to 2000 with 35's.

I'm running 4.56 with 33's, but 4.10 would get you a little bit better gas mileage. 4.56 is meant to be run with 35's and 4.10 with 33's. I would definitely get 4.10's if it will be used often on the highway with 33's. Going 60mph I can get about 20 mpg, but I typically go 80 mph and get about 11-12 mpg down the interstate.

Yes in O.D.

How about towing? Will 4.10 still have enough power?

4.10 with 33" tires is the closest to the stock ratio of gears to tires, which is what you want. You will lose nothing and gain nothing compared to when everything was stock. You will lose top end speed and fuel mileage with 4.56 gears with 33's. But if you were to get 35's you'll be wishing you had gotten 4.56 gears. - I plan to one day get some 35's so that's why I went with 4.56 gears.

now i figure when i do go solid on the front ill have to get bigger tires to make my ego accept the front solid axle cost.
so yes eventually i will probably go 35s or 37s. i think, lol anyway i apreciate the insight so keep the thoughts pooring in.
if zr2s came with 4.10 stock then what tires were those meant to run OEM? anyone know? i though it was 31s?
i dont want a gutless truck, but i dont want super bad mpg either!

ZR2's came with 3.73's... and 31's
With 4.56 and 33's I was getting 300km to a tank. 300 000+ km on my engine
Just got 370km to the tank with 35's.
