4LO Whinning Noise
Hey everyone. So today I was off roading and when I switched to 4 wheel drive LO I started hearing a whinning noise coming from the front end either on the passenger side or from the front drive axle. The more speed I gain the louder the noise becomes. I have been searching and it seems like it could be the wheel bearing. Also, the shift lever for the four wheel drive seems like it needs to be adjusted. If thats possible. When switching down into four LO the light does not stay on and the shift lever goes forward towards neutral. If you have any input it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.

Doubtful that it is a wheel bearing. Most likely, your front axle did not engage properly. Common problem covered in many other threads.

If it only does it in 4low its normal. Just the gear reduction noise.

Check the dope in your Xfer case

If it is the front axle not engaging properly 4 wheel drive would still work fine? Also I was looking inder the truck and noticed that my cv boots need replacing. Could that be what is making the noise?

Nope . Its in the Xfer . THey all do it , some louder than others

So is checking the dope in the transfer case easy or what does it consist of? And you are saying the noise is normal like abig84 was saying?

All those Xfer cases have a whine that progressivly gets louder as you accelerate. On the back of the case should be 2 large plugs. 1 1/4" socket ( I think , dont qoute me) . The dope should be at the bottom of the top hole. Easy to some is hard to others.

What exactly do i check for? And do they usually only whine in Lo and not high?

Yep Low range only.
I dont know what you mean. The sound is somewhat normal to these cases. Just make sure youve got plenty of fluid in the transfer case.
