Default 4wd???

Today we got some really strong rain so about an hour ago me and my buddies take my car into a empty mud feild around my house. Not thinking well cause my tires are non existent but we ended up nearly getting stuck in some deep mud. Im not sure if my 4wd is working right because when i opened my door to push I dont remember if my front left tire was spinning. I dont have lockers just open diff. My push button goes on without any problems and stays on but what worries me is what i believe to be my transfer case clicks when i move from a stop if 2wd or 4wd. The clicking noise comes from right under the driver seat.
Thanks this is my first post but i always get info from the site.

After going four wheeling, do it again in 2WD... there should be a noticeable difference.
