Default 4WD/Front hubs not engaging

I got a '85 2.8 4x4. It has the good ol' floor manual shifter.

Ever since I have owned it, only the front hub indicator light worked, and the hubs worked. But now all of a sudden the front hub indicator light isn't gong on, and the hubs wont engage. I dont now alot about the vaccum system that operates this thing....but what could be causing this problem?

While im fixing this I thought I would fix the lack of indicator lights..... Why aren't the little lights coming on next to the 2WHEEL, 4HI, NEUTRAL, and 4LO lettering? I've checked the bulbs and circuts...all good. Transfer case still engages, even if I dont know what gear its in (I have to guess).

I hope that ^ wasnt too confusing, but in short....
Why arent my hubs engaging, and why aren't the 4wd indicator lights coming on, even when 4wd is engaged (bulbs are fine)?

Thanks in advance guys!

i had a 85 a few years back... the thing that is pulled by the vacuum should be right on your passenger side fender well under the hood. put your truck in 4x4 and see if that thing has any vacuum going to it. its probably that switch on the transfercase. on mine i would just manually engage it and put a pair of vise grips on it

Alright, i got that problem fixed.
I found a loose vaccum tube that wasnt connected to anywhere, so I connected it to the open vaccum intake on that diaphram you ^ were talking about on the fenderwell. Hubs engage now. THANKS ALOT!!

I still have the problem with the lack of 4wd indicator lights....i still have to guess what 4wd gear I'm in. Any solutions?
