Question 4WD Not Working....

I was given a 1998 Blazer from a charitable organization with only 63K on it. All I was told was that the 4WD did not work and to keep it at 2HI. It came with 4 snow tires. How does that problem effect the rest of the system? What do I need to look out for?

With rear wheel drive, the rear end will be all over the place in winter. You will need to adjust your driving habits. Also are the orange lights on the 4x4 switches on? Not sure about the 98 but, my 01 will sometimes not change from 2 to 4 wheel drive because of a loose connection at the switch.

i know this is old, but did you get this fixed? it's good to keep everyone informed with the results of your problems.

she said the truck has snow's all the way around, what the hell does that have to do with her question?

my 4WD wasn't working when i first bought it last December, and it worked fine in the snow, and we can get some crazy snow up here!

Just found out this is "one of this vehicle weaknesses" what else do I have to look forward to????

We can help you get it fixed properly, but we need a bit more information.

The 4wd switch on the dash will be to the left of the center dash vents (above the radio). If you have the 3-button switch (2HI, 4HI, & 4LO), then you have the NV233 transfer case. If you have the 4-button switch (Auto4wd, 4HI, 2HI, & 4LO), then you have the NV236 transfer case. Take a look at the Tech Article (DIY) Index link in my signature for 4wd related posts to do some reading up on what to check and how.

you have a switch on front differential may need replacing also there is a vaccum acuator under battery also may need replacing

like Kyle said, we need more info from her before we can point her in the proper direction.

other wise we could just make out a long list for her to start checking anything & everyting related to the 4WD system.
