Default 4wd question

In my 03 my 4wd won't engage ,i don't hear the transfer case what so ever, and the light on the dash just blinks near the 4hi button , even while in neutral. What are some places I should start to try to diagnose this ? And, I have noticed the front end has a slight hum to it both front axles are good, axles seals have been replaced, wheel bearings are good as well no movement what so ever . I haven't owned a blazer prior to this so the slight notice from the front end almost like a hum so to speak .

Thoughts?

First question to help us help you: Do you have the 3 button 4wd system or the 4 button with autotrac?

The first thing I'd check is if the actuator under the battery tray is getting vacuum when you push the 4wd button. It should be sucking down and pulling on the cable to the front diff. The actuator rubber boot can get cracked or torn and will leak.
