Default 4wheeldrive won't disengage right away

so I got a new swith put in (under the battery tray) to get my 4-wheel drive working. In the 3 years I had it, It hasn't worked, so I am not sure what to expect. But, when switching back to 2wd from 4 hi, it takes upwards of 30 seconds-minute to disengage...so if making a sharp turn let's say, after hitting the button and it switching back, it still feels like it is engaged for a while...is this normal? I know in 4wd it will feel as if it doesn't want to turn at full wheel lock, and the tires will slip on the pavement a bit, but it contunues instead of disengaging...thoughts? Please let me know if I need to take it back to the shop, or if I am just inexperienced with it.

THanks

If your vacuum hoses are in good condition, then there isn't much else to do.

Builder...you have a worn/flat tire or different tire sizes on the truck.
GM designer and 89 beater..no, this is not normal, it should only take a second or two for the front differential to FULLY disengage, you both have a sticking vacuum switch on the top of the t-case...swap it out for about $20.00 and you'll be good to go. Takes a 7/8" open-ended wrench, and it's on the driver's side of the t-case with a 3-port vacuum manifold attatched to it....make sure you INDEX it correctly when you plug the manifold into the new switch...there is a locator on the switch and a hole to coincide with it on the manifold. Post up after ya fix it.

my 4 wheel drive is engaged by a like a manual stick on the floor. i thought they only used vacuum for the puch botton 4x4.

No, ALL of these trucks use vacuum to control the front axle. Themanually shifted t-case just doesn't have the electronic parts to shift the T-case not the axle that's the only difference. Once itis shifted to any 4x4 range a vacuum switch on the t-case controls the front axle actuator (under the battery tray) whichpulls a cable and engages the front axle. Like I said ALL of them have the t-case switch..unless it is AWD or the newer ones with Auto 4WD, and they have a vacuum solenoid under the hood instead of the switch on the t-case, but still control the front axle by switching vacuum..

You're welcome..yes that's my blazer in my sig, and on the ROTM poll.
