Default 4x4 front wheel speed slow

i have a 01 LT. i put it on the lift the other day to do a oil change and decided to check the 4x4 before it snows and i noticed the front wheels wont spin in the air without pressing on the gas but the rears move when i release the brake. Are the fonts supposed to move at the same time as the rear or is there a delay and they move at different speeds.

You didn't mention if you have a 3-button or 4-button transfer case.

I would think that if you are 4Hi or 4Lo that the front tires would rotate with the back once the parking brake is released. I would not expect the front wheels to rotate if the parking brake were applied since in 4hi or 4lo, he front and rear drive shafts would be locked to each other by the transfer case gears/chain.

If you have the 4-button transfer case, were by chance in Auto4wd?

The test I would do is with all the tires off the ground and engine off, put the transmission in neutral, put the transfer case in 4Hi, and with the parking brake off try to rotate a front or rear wheel. You might have to block the wheels on one side to keep the differential from causing the wheel on the other side from rotating backwards.

What I would look for is if turning the rear wheel on one side causes the driveshaft to also rotate, then the the other driveshaft to rotate on the other side of the transfer case, then see if this causes a tire on the front axle to rotate.
