Could be many different things. The NV233 transfer case has been discussed many times. Check out the Tech Article (DIY) section for a post entitled OBD2 Non-Automatic Transfer Case Diagnosis (or something to that effect) for a way to check the codes. Then search on NV233 and read up.

Found a bad switch on transfer case.replaced it,axle dissengages.I got in 2 hi but light is not on & cannot get to 4 hi. Do you think my shift motor is bad or my tccm? I dont get any codes but i had the battery off when checking the diaphragm (it works fine).I,m lost, i here the transfer case making noise while trying to shift.

Try shifting it a few times to other modes to see if it will set the codes again. You can also test the switch. The wiring diagrams for the NV233 are around here somewhere. Maybe check out the thread by error_401 in the Tech Article (DIY) section. I think I posted the wiring diagrams in that thread.

Thanks i,ll try tommorow its getting late and cold .let you know if i get any.

I should tell you also that over the last year or so ,while driving on the highway it would ocassionally try to shift into 4hi ,i would hit the 2hi button and it would go back to normal. its my wifes truck so i didnt realize what it was doing for a long time (she sometimes exaggerates on stuff) ,until i was with her when it did it.and it started to stay in 4hi in the last couple of weeks.i dont know if this helps but i will try for the codes again tomorrow.
