hello , while swapping a trans a buddy of mine thought he would drain the oil on the transfer case.. well he took out the wrong plug... there was a spring behind this plug, he didnt let it and the plug drop. as soon as he seen the spring he shoved the plug back into the case..

was there any harm done..?

i am not familar with 4x4s but how ever the case seems to shift into all ranges and will rotate as well..

can i turn it up side down and see if there is a ball in there?

i have it out on the ground.. like to make sure its ok..

 

If nothing but fluid came out, there was no harm done. It sounds like it was a detent location, but without more specifics about the transfer case, I cannot say for certain.
