Default Another 4WD engagement problem!

You can tell it’s winter when all the 4x4 engagement posts start popping up. I’m sorry to say this is another 4WD won’t engage post. I have a 1996 Blazer with the 3 button controls. Everything worked fine the last time I used it. Now when I hit ANY of the three buttons the light doesn’t come on at all and there is no click, not to mention it doesn’t shift into 4WD. I checked the 4WD fuse in the fuse box at drivers’ side of dash. Then I tried grounding pin 13 in the data link connector and turning ignition to run to retrieve any DTC’s. I got no lights from the three buttons at all. I disconnected the battery for about 20 minutes to reset everything and retried the test and still got no lights coming on. So….where should I go from here?

Thanks,

Darren

Check the wiring at & to the 4wd actuator. I'm not sure where it is on a '96 but around the battery I think. May be a grounding issue as well if there aren't any lights or function with it.
Try a search for 1996 4WD by Swartllk you'll probably find an answer

Smile I feel kinda dumb now

Hi Rottidog. Thanks for the reply. I managed to scrounge up a service manual this morning. You were on the right track. I wasn't getting power to the TCCM. While I was looking over the electrical schematic I noticed battery voltage coming in to the TCCM from the fuse block called CTSY LP, fuse 8, 10A. Now I checked the fuse in the fuse block called 4WD or something like that, but I didn't check any courtesy light fuses! I pulled that CTSY LP fuse and sure enough, blown. I replaced it and everything works again. Hopefully it doesn't blow again because I'm no good at tracking that stuff down. For anybody else that the switches don't work at all, don't forget to check ALL the fuses.

That's awsome & I'm glad I helped. With no lights or anything working I figured it was electrical. Lets hope it was just a random event.
