axle swap for an 86 K5
ive got an 86 k5 blazer, all stock drivetrain. its got corporate 10 bolts front and back, and i'm wanting to swap in some one tons. what kind of problems am i going to run into? im wanting to get a suspension lift kit (new springs up front, add a leaf in the rear, both 2 inches, and longer shackles for a total of 4 inches). do i go ahead and go with the suspension for the blazer or will i need to get a 1 ton lift. im doing this because i want lower gears (currently have 3.27 or somewhere in those numbers lol) and need a new yoke for the rear axle. would it be more feasable to just buy lower gears and get a new yoke for the 10 bolts? i dont rock crawl or anything, just go mudding, so i dont really need the extra beef of a 1 ton axle, just thought it would be more cost effective and efficient. whats your guys opinions? im gonna run 35 inch tsl's and only want a 4.11 gear ideally.
A Dana 60 should bolt right into the front, but if you find a 1-ton to take the axles out from under, the rear axle will have the spring perches mounted closer together (40.5" vs the 42.5" that your truck has). So to be able to use the 1 ton rear (assuming 14BFF), you will have to cut off the stock spring perches and weld them back on at the 42.5" spacing.
You will be buying the lift for your truck, not for a 1 ton.
