Big problem. Front differential noise. Please help.
So today I finally installed my rough country 2.5" lift kit and ran into a bit of a problem.
When removing the axle half shafts to drop the differential, specifically the passenger side, the axle did not disengage from the jack-shaft and pulled the jack-shaft out with it.
Looking at the differential you could see what appeared to be a large washer that started to fall down into the differential but I caught it and got it back into place before reinserting the jack shaft.
Problem now is that when accelerating and driving at any speed, turning or driving straight, there is a thumping type noise that you can hear and feel through your feet coming from the front that gets substantially worse when you engage the 4wd. I've looked over my suspension, axle shafts, etc and can't find anything loose or binding so I'm convinced the problem is in the differential.
Has anyone here ever had the jack-shaft pull out when replacing an axle before? If so what did you have to do to fix it?
I'm about to take a 3500 mile round trip in a week so I have to get this fixed ASAP. Please help me. I have no experience working with differentials so I'm desperate for help.
