Blazer from hell

Blazer from hell
so i have a 99' LS 4wd, the front end needs like 2-3 grand of work done, on the bearings, lower controller arms, front differential, halfshafts and a front oil seal on the engine (if that is where the leak is coming from) and on the back i replaced the rear differential cover 2 months ago and now the damn thing is leaking from somewhere, so some time this week i have to take the cover off and put a new seal on to see if that works, in 20 degree weather no less, I think im about ready to go insane, ive had fun with the blazer, but im more than ready to go back to jeeps, the blazer was technically an accident anyways, but my wrangler could be my saving grace if i cant get this blazer fully repaired, the sad thing is that ive had 3 cherokee's that ive put 300,000 + miles on and this blazer has only175,000 and i feel like its tearing my wallet to shreds

if it makes you feel any better, when i bought mine i paid $1800 for a '00 with 163k miles.
now it has 176k mils on it and i have bought it again 3 times in repairs.....
it's half the fun of keeping one of these pigs on the road.

Are you doing all the work yourself?
If so, you can save quite a bit of money by shopping around online for parts. My local parts store wanted $279 apiece for front hub bearings for my '04.
I found Timken hubs on Amazon.com (of all places) for $100 each. They were cheaper and quicker to ship than Rock Auto or any of the GM online dealers. I got 'em within 3 days on a regular delivery, swapping out both took about 2-3 hours.
If you don't mind used parts for things like the front diff or control arms, try this:
http://www.car-part.com/
It's a big network of junkyards that have their parts listed online. Just plug in year, make/model part you need, state and zipcode. It'll give you a list, in order of what's closest to you. Control arms shouldn't be too bad used, if you clean 'em up and put in new bushings and ball joints.

well the problem is I'd love to do the work myself, but I dont know entirely whats wrong that needs to be fixed so no matter what I have to take it to a repair shop, so I'm kinda screwed I guess

I know the feeling. Less than 2 weeks after I bought mine, the motor spun a bearing. The first 2 months I had it, it spent more time in the shop than on the road. We've replaced the motor, AC compressor, intake, spider injectors, cat, muffler, radio, front left knuckle, right rear caliper, and still have to replace the heater core (and HOPE that fixes the heat problem). Mine is definitely a money-pit, but I still like it for some reason. lol

Boy, if that's all you have fixed, you're doing pretty good. See my post on "What have you got done today". There's more I probably forgot to mention. Love it though. In fact I haev an 84 Jimmy that I have to just about totally rebuild after I let young son have it for a while and repo'ed it off him. That's when he ran it into the fire hydrant and ruptured the tanny coolant tank inside the radiator and guess what the tranny was full of. I just can't give 'em up though. They are fun to drive, just not to work on. Satisfying when you get them running good though.

Blazers are worth every penny of work you put into them because they are safe, they handle well in bad weather, they teach you how to work on cars, and I find that anything I fix myself doesn't break again.
Hope this helps. Merry Christmas!

aaaaaah, dont feel bad, my 96 with 102k has been in "limp mode" for a lil over 2 years and ive replaced sooooo much and STILL havent figured out the problem!!! And because of the limp mode thing, its put extra stress on my engine to where it started ticking and has been for the last year!!! But i can say this, that 4.3 is a STROOOOONG motor!!! I ALSO thought about trashing mine, but im not. Im doing a built up 5.7, bored 30 over, so that it will last ANOTHER 10-15 years!!! It used to get the summers off, but after this build, my GTP will be in the garage a whoooole lot more!!!!
