Lightbulb Can a Blazer handle a front locker?

Hi there.

What do you think about fitting a selectable front locker to a stock '94 Blazer S-10 4x4 (4 door version)?

I've heard that these trucks are not really solid enough for a front locker, especially if you put bigger tires on. Some even claimed that bigger tires (33" upwards) alone is enough that you'll break things often. Is this true?

Dont know much about the 4 door versions, but yes, the 4x4 system will handle a front locker. My dads '89 GMC S-15 Gypsy came with front and rear lockers stock and they work great. As much as GM interchanges things, I cant see any reason they wouldnt work in other years as well.

there are many things to consider before putting a front locker in. first you have to make sure you have the steel diff cover and not the aluminum one, or else you'll have problems. you also want the best front end parts you can get (cv axles, ball joints, hubs, idler arm, polyurethane bushings) also you will need to get a steering stabilizer so your idler arm doesn't get busted every time you but it in 4 wheel drive. You should also have the manual transfer case those are the strongest, push button will work but you have a greater chance of something failing. Also you don't want to be driving on a road in 4wheel drive going very fast you won't turn right

Hmm... Found this link: Redneck-up - How To: Lock Right Install in S-10 7.25 Front Diff What do you think? Sounds like the "do this first" steps are quite complicated.

if you want the locker to work properly and not mess up all your front end parts I would follow what that is saying

going through all that mess. might as well through a solid axle under there i dont know the cv joints can handle it. i ran 33s on a stock s10 and kept breaking them like crazy

It's my DD, so I'd like to keep the IFS, but yeah. Might be easier.

a locker isn't practical for a dd, that'll eat through tires like crazy. a posi or a limited slip is best for dd's if you want both tires to spin. unfortunatly they don't make those for the front differential. I'd just get a limited slip for the rear and and leave the front alone it'd save you a lot of trouble and you're not gonna be missing that much traction. 3 of the 4 tires will spin

Surely not with a selectable one?
