Exclamation chirping, grinding sound from drivetrain?

I had this problem start this afternoon, whenever you take off and drive there is a chirping, grinding sound from the drivetrain. i drove it home and when i took it to the shop the noise wasnt as loud. i thought it was coming from the front end so i had them check brakes and make sure the wheel bearings were tight, everything looked good. then the noise was gone, then came back later. theres no specific time it makes the noise i guess, thinking maybe in the rear?. it doesnt seem like is driving any different just noise. there is snow on the ground so i was thinking maybe snow is built up somewhere messing with something, i havent had much time to check into it but i was curious if anyone had heard of a problem like this. any help is needed! thanks!
