Default CV Axle replacement

Hi Everyone,
I need some help. I'm replacing my CV axle on my 2000 Blazer. I got the bearing hub off and the ball joints disconected. Pulled on the CV Axle ( not hard ) and about 2/3 of it came out ( just to the 2nd boot ). Any ideas how to get the rest of it out?

i might be wrong but isnt there only 2 boots on the cv axle .at least that all there is on my older one, i think the rest is just the straight shaft that goes into the diff.

your right, just wanted to express how much was left in. it's the shaft and the part the boot attaches to. any idea how to get it out? I tried getting a pry bar behind it, and hitting it while pulling as suggested in the manual i have but no luck.

oh i get it ok well if youve takin off all of the bolts holding it to the shaft and then i had to take off the spindel from both ball joints and the tie rod to get teh room to get it out the i just put in a bar and hit it on the seem it will come apart but there gets to be a lot of rust in there so alot of hit and some good hits all around it and a few to the front and back should pop it off i know its hard i just did it two weeks ago.

If you are trying to remove what is left of the inner CV shaft from the diff, typically, a block of wood and a 5lb hammer help out with this. There is a detent ring inside that helps retain the shaft. It can sometimes make it quite difficult to disengage the half shaft from the diff. Take a couple of hits on the CV shaft, then rotate it and hit it at another location.

[:@]Difficult is an understatement! after beating the hell out of it with a 20 lb sledge and a block of wood it still wouldn't come out. I finally got it out putting a 4 ft crowbar behind it. Not including the time it took to get that out, the total job was only about 2 1/2 hours including stopping for an occasional cigarette or beer. Anyone attempting this without being a mechanic ( I am not a mechanic ) should know that it's actually fairly easy to do. I felt a great sense of accomplishment knowing how much I saved by doing it myself. Also the new cv axle was $64 at a local parts store plus the core charge.
