Default Disabling the 4 wheel drive function

New member here and I have a question about disabling or removing the 4WD option on a 1997 Blazer. I'm not new to vehicles but I am new to 4WD and I was wondering if, by chance, removing the 4WD functionality of the Blazer would yield a slight increase in fuel economy? I've seen posts on other forums where members have done this to improve economy but they where on older trucks. Is this something that can be done to a newer truck? If so, I would probably want to keep the parts just in case I decide or ever need the 4WD option.

Thanks

Sorry to say..just getting a 2wd would be a better idea...and honestly i dont think the gains would be that much. No matter what you do 2wd or 4 wd these little trucks like gas.

There are a lot easier and more efficent things you can do to improve fuel economy. Such as: keeping you tires properly inflated, limit extra weight, make sure the engine and sensors are in proper working condition, etc.

Not to mention the money and work and possible fabrication in making it into a 2wd vehicle. If I remember right 2WD and 4WD blazers get very similar gas mileage because of how little people drive in 4WD

ya like everyones saying the time you would spend taking everything out and converting it you'll gain little to nothing in mpg and have pretty much knocked abouta grand worth of resale (at least up around here) out of your rig ...if you ever wanted to sell it again ...

ive gotta say its really not worth it in any way shape or forum at all

My thoughts where similar but again, I'm new to 4WD and just wanted to ask the question.

Oh, and I did look specifically for a 2WD only Blazer but everything posted on Craigslist's for my area had nothing but 4WD Blazers and Jimmy's. No, wait, there was that 1987 Blazer with a 2.8L in it. It was in pretty good shape considering the age but I thought I'd like the '97 I chose better (plus the price was only a couple hundred more than the '87). I just hope I didn't make a mistake. LOL

Not trying to be an *** but what do you hate about it? Is it not working properly? Why would you own a 4x4 vehicle if you hate 4x4?

craigslist, barter, trade 4x4 blazer for 2wd blazer

thats my advice for you. disabling your fourwheel drive is ALOT easier said then done, and i think you guys dont full understand the amount of work you would needed to put into making a 2wd blazer when..your not gaining almost any mpg or power or ....anything

my honest advice if your truly hate 4x4 is to trade for a 2wd blazer or s10 pickup or whatever you want.

or just take your front driveshaft out...problem solved you have no 4x4
but again your not gaining anything doing that besides affecting your resale value...
