Default disengaging 4x4?

is it possible to completely disengage the 4x4 on a truck??

meaning, can i make the truck just 2WD and not have to worry about the 4x4 (seeing as how ill never use it anyways)

im tired of all the transfer case problems and all that other jazz...

so, is it possible??

what needs to be done to do so.

thx.

Default RE: disengaging 4x4?

You could remove all of the components if you wanted, but that would be a heck of a lot of work... You would pretty much have to buy a new transmission and longer rear driveshaft as the tail shafts are different between the 4wd and the 2wd. You may be able to keep your trans and just gut the transfercase, remove the front half shafts, and the front driveshaft and should be ok... But then again, I think that the outer knuckle on the half shafts actually serve to hold the wheel bearing together so...

But on another tangent, have you even bothered to try anything that has been suggested? If you have, post up your results and we will help narrow down your problem. We can't recommend something if there is no further input...
