Flying Grease
I recently picked up my first Blazer. 1998 4x4 LT. During the process of replacing the front shocks, I noticed grease splatters around the area of the drivers side front axle. I cleaned all the grease, finished the shocks and took the rig out on a 30 mile drive. No unusual drive noises and the 4x4 engages and dissengages just fine. Upon return, I crawled under the rig and saw a small amount of grease had been slung around the area around the inboard joint closest to the case. The outer joint and boot were clean/dry. You can visually see a ring of grease around that inboard joint. Any ideas what I'm looking at and ease or difficulty of repair?

I think they have CV boots you can buy and just replace the boot. I am not sure how involved it is to do that though. I would do it soon though, keep losing grease inside there, then you will have problems with your cv axle.

I would stay away from the quick boots. IMO, they aren't worth the time. Just replace the half shaft and be done. The joint may already be damaged.

Thanks. I had the axle replaced today along with the wheel bearing which was warn. Better to err on the side of caution and fix em both while it was apart.

Grease spat out of both sides of mine after I did the rough country lift kit shocks and control arms in that spot replaced both cv joints and no more grease.
