i have a 95 chevy blazer awd. with 3.42 gears.i was having a loud clunking sound that i thought was coming from the transfer case,so i dug into that and ended up finding a shreded needle bearing. i bought a bearing/seal kit, installed it,put the driveshafts back in.got the same clunking.so me and a buddy narrowed it down to the front end.we decided to take off the front drivshaft and see if it still made the noise, but with the driveshaft out the noise was gone.so we thought it must be the driveshaft.i took it in to have it checked and balanced.picked it up,installed it,same clunking.i suspect its something in the front axle assembly, but not really sure where to check from here.the sound is only heard when accelerating or braking with the front driveshaft in.if im coasting there is no noise.
P.S. I also checked the oil in the front diff. and it looked dark and smelt burnt. Im not a mechanic by a long shot, but i cant afford to take it in and have it looked at.

Dang man this sounds a lot like my 96 jimmy right now. But hey with the blazer off and in park, if you go to the front and jump up and down putting weight on the front can you hear the clunk? that is what mine does. I feel like its more towards the right side though.
