Front drive shaft cv boot
#1
I searched and called around..does anyone make a boot for the front driveshaft cv joint?
Mine hass ripped...must have disturbed the dirt holding it together when i did tranny swap...local yards have the whole drive shaft but i would rather do the boot if possible
pic...this may help.

notice the lube trail on the underside of the floor boards.
Thanks guys

Yeah...i started finding kits like that just a little while ago....i started calling yards after that.
Used shafts are 50 or so around here....i was wondering if i could do boot only...guess not
Thanks for the help though.

Yeah...luckily yards by me have them...new shafts are 200-300 around local parts stores.
i just hope the boot failed because of age and not lift related issues.

well how long have you had you lift done as she sits right now

the lift has been on for year and half....i did just have the whole drive line tore down for the tranny swap....so i am thinking i damaged it while monkeying with everything else.
the boot split right at the crimp on the shaft....if it were angle related i think it would have failed differently...it all still spins very well. so i am thinking it was my careless handling of the shaft.
i will know more when i swap it out this weekend.

Are you serious? $200! I checked with ORiellys and they wanted $69 a piece for brand new ones with no core charge and $59 for remans a piece with a $100 core charge each.

^^^^ your thinking cv shaft going from front diff to the wheels.
i damaged the front drive shaft going from the transfercase to the front diff.
edit....ok here is my junkyard find, and it was 40.00 to boot.

thats the best part...it looks like new...even the u-joint looked new (minus the duct tape on the caps).
cant beat that!
here is the failed old boot

under closer inspection it was toast...the whole boot was just about to give way at the collar...rest in peace...you did your job well boot.
230k + miles...good job gm.
