Default Front End Rattle

New day new problem. Have a pretty good idea from knowledge and the forums, guess I'm just looking for a second opinion. 1998 S10 Jimmy 4x4 4.3 231 tcase 3 button elec. Have a rattle/clunk coming from my front end in 2wd. If I pop it into 4wd the sound goes away. Swap it back and it comes back immediately. I'm also fairly sure it's not engaging the front axle. Could this just be my actuator or am I looking at diff and half shaft work? Cheers!

Edit: Did some playing and everything locks and actuates except the front diff. So I think I answered my own question. Yay front diff work! =(

So I guess my next question, if anyone knows. Is this something I can fix just pulling the actuator linkage or do I need to pull the half shaft? Front drive shaft locks up in 4wd.

I'd start with the actuator and cable and go from there

Ya, I wound up getting in there and tearing the whole thing apart. Turns out it was my outside drivers side CV joint. It basically destroyed itself. Thanks. =)
