Default front LSD?

Dealing with lovely ice and snow. I know they are available for the rear axle. but does anyone know of a LSD for the front axle on a 96 era jimmy?

I haven't heard of any, but they can also be a real handful on icy roads. By keeping the two front tires spinning at the same rate, it makes steering difficult in very low traction situations. ABS also doesn't work nearly as well, and fuel economy suffers because all of your front drivetrain spins all the time.

There's one guy that I guess custom makes LSD's that is offering them for our diffs. There's a guy on the ZR2 site that has one ordered and is going to be installing it once he gets it back. I think the typhoon/cyclone crowd got things started with him. He does LSD's for a lot of front wheel drive cars apparently.

Anyway that is the ONLY one available, and then there's the powertrax locker too.

you mistake lsd for a locker. and a lsd fwd car is probably nicer to drive in snow than a 4wd open diff.

abs hasnt worked since i unplugged it

and a good lsd for the truck would still allow the diff to be actuated

what is powertrax? an add on spring clutch setup? not true lsd but an "enhanced" open diff?

The only locker(powertrax) available for the 7.2" dif will unlock while driving. A limited slip will not unlock while driving, or it will burn out the clutches if it does. Unless you get a Torsen style, but it will still be spinning the complete front assembly...

I think it was on here he advertised. username was pontiacjaff. Engineered Performance was the company, a buddy of mine has one of his LSDs in a grand am, it goes like a tank.

I think you need to do some more research, a limited slip will send power to both wheels in slippery conditions, making it hard to steer. The only time it will slip or "disengage" is if one of the tires gets a fair bit more traction than the other.

With my Auburn LSD/Locker, when it's off and in slippery conditions, both tires are always spinning.

Powertrax is the only brand of locker (as Diata said) available for the 7.2

I understand a lsd differential as a limtied slip, yes both wheels are driving, however the power is split, normally or commonly in an 80/20 split. back on the escort forums we face a similar problem of no aftermarket or direct bolt on. but there is a company that makes them to order, and having driven mine, and one with a lsd installed, the lsd is by far superior is icy/snowy conditions. i felt no effect on steering.

It was on s10f where he did the advertising. I wouldn't mind having one, but I need to get my rear locked first.
