gear ratio change in front diff
#1
Hello,
I have a problem with my four wheel drive in a 96 blazer LT with an automatic. I've narrowed it down to a difference in gear ratios between my front and rear differentials. I recently changed my rear end from an open gu6 to what I believe is a g80 gt4 rpo code. Of course now the four wheel drive doesn't function properly. How can I change my front differential to match the rear end ratio? I've never opened up the front diff on one of these. I also am not sure where to get the parts. Does anyone know a good source for the parts I would need for this project? I'm located in southeast MO Any help is appreciated.

You have to drop the front diff out of the truck to open the case as it is a split case. Google Yukon Gears or look on SynergyOffroad or just about any other offroad parts store.
Or, which would probably be the easiest and cheapest method, go to the junkyard and pull the front diff out of another Blazer or Jimmy that already has the correct gears in it.

When changing the ring and pinion in the front, does one have to change any other parts like the spider gears or bearings? I've found the ring and pinion gears I need pretty cheap, but I'm not sure if I can just put those in the front differential without changing anything else. I have to do this without a garage, and conditions aren't all that great for working on these outside, so I'd rather do this right the first time. Any advice is welcome.

I'm in the process of swapping 4.10's in both my axles. I've gone through this website for all my parts. You may as well throw some fresh bearings in there while you got it open!
Hope this helps....
