Cool High effort power steering

I just got a 92 K1500 Blazer and it seems to take alot of effort to turn the steering wheel. This is my 3rd full size Blazer and my other two were an 85 and an 89 and both of them were much easier to steer. Is the pump going out or what could the problem be? It has about 150,000 miles and is in generally great shape. I also seem to have a tranny problem, it won't kick into passing gear but I think it may be a TV cable problem and will look at that later. Thanks!!!
