As I was driving home from work the other day, my brakes started acting up. I heard a pop on the driver's front side, and when I tried to brake, the pedal went easily all the way down to the floor, but luckily the car stopped.

When I got out, I noticed that the driver's side wheel looked funny. It was angled in so that the top of it was leaning in towards the wheel well.

After I jacked the car up (and before I removed the wheel), I noticed that the rotor wasn't flush against the axle any more. If I pushed on any part of the wheel, the part that I pushed on would go in, and the opposite side would poke out. Scary crap to say the least.

Does anyone know what's going on?!?

I had my front calipers fall off while I was stopping on the street one day. The last time anyone touched the brakes was a year prior when the pads and rotors were replaced. I have no clue how or why it happened. Gremlins maybe?

 

if you have play in all directions of the wheel when you move it with your hand it might be the bearing, just had a similar issue on my truck and if the bearing is going to **** the wheel has a lot of play in it. the bearing itself isnt serviceable so your gonna need the whole hub and bearing assembly, part cost me about $210 from napa

Put a floor jack under the bottom A-arm and lift the tire so that the suspension has weight on it. Now grab the tire at the top and bottom and try to "rock" it... there should be no play. Possible causes of play are wheel bearing or ball joint... both will cause the brakes to floor symptom of yours. It will only get worse so fix it soon.

if it's a 4x4 most likely the hub is shot just take off the tire you will see right away
