Question Need different torsion keys?

I have a 2in RC suspension lift on my Jimmy now, and want to eventually put some ZR2 torsion bars on. I was wondering if I would need to upgrade to a stronger torsion key to cope with the increased spring rate of the ZR2 bars? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

The zr2 uses the same keys as a regular s10 so no. Matter of fact if you can find a s-series that was ordered with the right options the same t-bars used in a zr2 were offered in a regular 4x4.

thats totally wrong. i have the zr2 bars in mine. the keys are the same. but the two stiffest sets of bars were ONLY in the ZR2.

The "offraod" suspension package they put in the "regular" blazers, has smaller bars than either set put in the ZR2.

believe me, ive been down this road before.

There were 6 different spring rates that were an option in the s-series. They could be ordered on any t-10 truck or suv. The 2 stiffest were more commonly found on the zr2 (heaviest commonly found on the suvs and 2nd stiffest found on trucks) but the option to order it on a regular t-10 was there and its not uncommon to find one with heavy duty t-bars. Might be rarer to find on a regular t-10 and you are better off searching for them on a zr2 but the chance is still there.

I planed on going with the second strongest because I have heard the the strongest have a really stiff ride.

wtf ever. im tellin ya dont even waste your time looking at anything besides Z's. the 30.69mm bars ride pretty decent.

so, you got any documentation saying they were offered on regular S series? Because Ive been high and low between several states and from my own personal experience, i have NEVER seen them put on a standard S series. Special ordered for a snow plow rig maybe, but then again i have never seen one of those in a scrap yard either so I wouldnt know for sure.

"The 2 stiffest were more commonly found on the zr2 (heaviest commonly found on the suvs and 2nd stiffest found on trucks)"

I said the second stiffest, therefore they would commonly be found on the ZR2.

Do a search on RPO codes, Z85 was the heavy duty towing package for a s-series before zr2 ever came about and included the heaviest t-bars and rear leaf packs. I have a 1987 blazer with a set of worn out 30mm t-bars under the front sitting outside right now. I'm 2nd owner of it and bought it from my mother so I'm very aware they have not been upgraded.

The only special things about the zr2 was the width and the frame mounting points for the suspension. There were no other magical special parts that were only offered on the zr2 compared to a regular t-10 if the original owner knew the correct parts to order.

Personally if I was searching for another set of the heavy duty bars I would include and 4 door blazer or truck along with the zr2s as those were the most common 2nd gens that would have the larger bars.

Ok i searched deeper into the web and i stand *slightly* corrected.

the 30.69mm was offered on the z85 suspension package, while the 32.51mm were NOT.

also in this thread, post number nine you say your 87 has the 29mm bars while here you say 30's, also you say you "know for a fact all ZR2s came with the last pair" which is funny because i got my 30.69's off a ZR2
http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f220/tosrion-bars-423235/

Im willing to bet that the standard Z85 was the 29mm bar with an optional upgrade to the 30.69. Where the ZR2 was a standard 30.69 with an optional upgrade to the 32mm. I wish I had something to back this up tho.

so what it comes down to is this. if you want a guarantee to find either of the largest two sets of bars, look for a ZR2
