Default open dif upgrade

Hi I have a 2000 2dr 4x4 Chevy blazer. I was wondering how easy it was to change the diff to and lsd or if it was worth it. I'm new to forums so help would be much appreciated. Thank you

I swapped my open diff rear axle to one with a G80 locking diff in about 2 hours by myself in the driveway. That's the easiest way on a budget if you can find a donor axle for reasonably cheap.

With 4WD, the donor axle MUST have the same gear ratio as yours. The RPO codes will tell what's in yours. It will either be GU6 or GT4. The donor vehicle must have the same RPO as yours, plus G80. Post all of your RPO codes, (white sticker in the glove box) that start with "G" and we can tell you what you need to look for on the donor.

A g80 swap is about as easy as it gets. Just make sure yu get the right axle ratio.

theres always the delay of stuff breaking. spray down everything a few days ahead of time, brake lines, bolts, etc to make sure everything is going to come off

Ditto to what everyone's said about the G80 diff. It's no selectable locker and it'll take a little getting use to, but it does come in handy and works well once it engages when you need it.

Welding spider gears together is easy too, just wouldn't recommend it on a DD lol

Are you guys swapping the whole axle or just the diff portion? I know its shimmed and all but Iv found with many factory housings, diffs and gears the same shims work in the same housing. I.E. the housing tolerance is the error not the gears or diff.

Swap the entire differential as an assembly: Differential, axles, brakes, the whole thing.
