You really need two people to do it. One person to operate a ratchet or impact gun and the other to hammer the fork splitter between the joints while the other is turning the bolt. We had a small impact gun with a couple of extensions on it going down through the engine bay from above to engage the bolt. I then sat underneath and hammered the fork splitter into the joint while my friend turned the bolt. I tried doing it myself, but the bolt just spun. This was the way we got it done.

Hope that helps.

I can't tell exactly what bolt you're talking about, but if you're talking about ther bolt holding the Pitman Arm to the steering box, I think they way to go is as explained in the Haynes repair manual:

Remove the steering box and put it in a vise, then using the combination of a breaker bar to hold the pitman arm in place and another breaker bar or big *** adjustable wrench to loosen the bolt, remove the bolt. Once removed use a PITMAN ARM PULLER to remove the pitman arm.

I did not try using anything besides the pitman arm puller, which worked flawlessly. You could probably do it other ways with only slightly more aggravation.

Good luck if you haven't finished this yet...
