I'm not being an ***. Just people overlook the small things. Did you try neutral and shifting. Mine will ONLY shift if in neutral. Not park, and only 4lo. Everything else is on the fly.
Good Luck.

Have you tried manually shifting the transfer case into 2HI? You will need to take off the encoder motor and move the sector shaft manually. 4LO is at one extent of rotation and 2HI should be at the other extent.
I haven't done this to a NV236 (4-button) transfer case, but I know on the NV233/NV231, the sector shaft only rotates about 60 degrees clockwise to get from 2HI to 4LO with 4HI at 20 degrees clockwise from 2HI and neutral at 40 degree clockwise from neutral.

Stuck in 4 wheel
I had a similar problem that corrected itself by disconnecting the negative battery terminal. It may have reset the computer. I was stuck in 4 wheel high for a while and after trying this things went back to normal. I have a 2000 S-10 Blazer.
