Hello!

i wish to buy a new set of shocks for my 90 k5, 5.7L.
first of all any recommendations will be very helpful - i need a good shock absorber that will prove itself off-road and will be decent on-road, let's say 60-40 towards off-road.
now most important - I've been told to measure the length of the shock while the truck is standing on flat ground, but others told me i also need to measure the max' and min' of the suspension with or without a shock on that side.
so i ask - what is the best way to measure and fit a new shock absorberr?
plus, how do i know if the shocks i have now are in the right size?

i never lifted the truck, and i can't tell if any of the previous owners lifted it or not. it's sitting on 33" tires and it's about 2m in height so.. you tell me..

 

I also have Sensa Trac shocks pretty smooth ride.

i have rancho rs5000's on my 89 they have been on the truck for 12 years and just now started to give me problems rancho makes great shocks for off-road and street use plus a lifetime warranty...as for your lift if you have 33's youy probably have at least a 2" lift take a look at your leafsprings and see if there is a block underneath them that is probably the most common form of lift for these trucks measure that block and thats your lift so if you haven't bought your new shocks yet look into the ranchosOH and i forgot to say this in my first post but with the rancho website if you can figure out your lift they can match shocks to your vehicle so you wont even need to measure the current ones check out gorancho.com and do a search for your vehicle which like i said before is probably a 2 or 2.5 inch lift my 89 fits 33''s just barely on a 2 in
