Default Rear axle interchange?

Figured i would find a sticky or an answer in a quick search, no luck. My friend has a 96 blazer and is searching salvage yards for a rear end, they only give him options between 95 and 97, is this only because the newer ones are disk brake And not drum like his 96? will they all fit as long as theyre the correct ratio obviously?

You are correct. The barking brake is a bit different between disk and drum but they are easily swapped.

As long as you match the gear ratio for the front and back diff's its a pretty easy swap. I have an axle from a '99 under my '96 Blazer. Like Neo71665 said, the parking brake cable is different so you'll have to either change the cable or manufacture something to make it work. Other than that, I'm very happy with my new disc brakes.
