Default Rear backing plate

Hi,

I have a question about the rear backing plate. Is it really a must to remove to open the differential and remove the axle? I saw pictures of 2 pieces backing plates. But not for the s-10 blazer...

Bests,
Dominik

I could not find any two piece backing plates for the 2000 style blazer. I just did the axle remove and replaced the pieces. Not as hard as you think. Cleaning the rear end cover, for a good reseal, was most of the work. Best of luck.

Yes you need to remove the axles to remove the backing plates. Removing the axles is not hard. Drain fluid, remove cover, remove pinion lock bolt, remove pinion shaft, push axle in and remove C clip. pull axle out.
