Default Rear Brake Smell/Excessive Heat

I have a 1998 Chevy Blazer 4x4 with rear disc brakes. Today on my way home when leaving a stop light, I let my foot off the brake and heard a slight rubbing sound. When I got home you could smell a "Machined Metal" smell, so I touched the passenger side right rear rim and it was really warm, where as the other 3 rims were cool to the touch. Just looking for any advice as to what the problem may be. THANK YOU FOR THE HELP. I REALLY NEED IT.

Hello. You may have 1 of 3 problems. A, your slide pins on the caliper are seized or binding and need to be disassembled to either clean or replace (slide pin hardware is very inexpensive)if they are in bad shape, just replace. B. The caliper itself is bad and the piston is not retracting properly, I had this same problem described and I replaced both rear calipers and it cured the problem. Rebuilt unitssell for around $50. C some claim that the brake flex line (the rubber hose) swells up and doesn’t allow brake fluid to return brake fluid- thus not allowing the piston to retract. However I believethat it’s more likely to beeither A or B. Let us know what you find!

O ya, if you clean or replace the pins- remember to use lots of grease!

Thanks Joey, I will give it a shot. Today when I drove it it seems to be fine, so maybe the pins just need replacing. I would think that if it were the piston it may still be tight, Maybe. Thanks For The Help.
