I just bought a 95 Jimmy, the rear end was broken when i bought it. (ring and pinion have teeth missing) i have a 97 Bravada for parts. i plan on swapping the rear end from the Bravada and putting it in the Jimmy, but the rear ends are different. I still want the 4 wheel drive to work properly. my question is, if i swap the front ring and pinion, will the gearing be correct? i believe it should be, but im not sure if the front end components are the same on a Bravada as they are all wheel drive.

Well if you look at the sticker inside the glovebox there are codes that tell you what gearing it has. Most bravadas have 3.73 and the code for that is GT4 also the code for the limited slip is G80. ALL of the parts on a bravada are pretty much the same except for the transfer case and the front diff doesnt have a vacuum disconnect, it is always engaged. The ring and pinion are interchangeable along with the rear ends.

look in the glovebox, find the codes like gu1,gu2,gu2,gt4 etc. post em here.

if the front and rear gears are different its not gonna work right
you need to make sure they match

what i am saying is, will everything work properly if i swap the rear end AND the front ring and pinion? i know for a fact that the two vehicles have different axle codes, i just want to make sure that if i swap the rear end and my front ring and pinion the gearing will work. i

Wouldn't it be easier to just swap in the front diff from the Bravada? I know the Bravada one doesn't have the engage/disconnect cable, but that's part of the extension tube on the passenger side, and the Blazer extension tube with the disconnect should just bolt right up to the Bravada Diff. I could be way off on this, so if anyone has experience with this please chime in.
I really don't know anything about swapping the guts from the diff though, so if that's the way you want to go someone more knowledgable needs to chime in here.
